Love and Spaceships, Vol. 1
A newsletter for people who like a side of romance with their sci-fi/fantasy
Hi everyone! I’m trying out this newsletter thing.
I’ve heard it’s a great way for authors to communicate with readers and potential readers. I’m an unpublished (as of yet) author who writes geeky love stories. If you like sci-fi, fantasy, board games, time travel, space and other nerd-type stuff AND you like love stories that aren’t terribly cheesy, we can have some fun.
First of all, thanks for taking the time to sign up! I promise not to spam you or share your info. And if the process is a bit clunky at first, I hope you’ll forgive me as I figure things out.
Okay, let’s have some fun. #SFFPit just wrapped up.
It’s a science-fiction/fantasy pitch contest on Twitter. One of our favorite pasttimes around here is browsing the hashtag and reading the pitches for books authors are trying to get published. Here are a couple of my faves:
Had me at “born heartless”!
“Star crossed bipolar lovers” and “Madcap cosmic adventure”— yes please!
I pitched PLANET OF OULS in the event and got three publisher “likes.”
That’s an invitation to query them. Two weren’t a good fit (my word count was too high for one and the other was an adult anime publisher— yikes), but I subbed to Uproar Books and got a full request! Here’s one of my pitches:
Many of you may know I’ve been trying to get this manuscript traditionally published for a fracking eternity. I recently did a major rewrite with help from my mentor, Lisa Amowitz, and it’s better than ever. I’m committed to getting it into book form in 2022 one way or another, so stay tuned!
I can do this!
And… just because I appreciate you signing up for this newsletter, I’ll give you a smexy little snippet from Planet of Souls. I hope you like it.
Want to read some geeky love stories that are already books?
I just listened to the audiobook STARSTRUCK by S.E. Anderson. It’s the first in her series of (OMG 8???) books where recently fired protagonist Sally gets swept up in an intergalactic manhunt. It’s got a light love story, lots of Hitchhikers and Firefly references (yeah baby), and more than one alien abduction. It’s 99 cents in ebook format right now on Amazon. Also, it looks like the boxed set of the first 5 books is on sale for $4.99 if you want to check it out:
