Okay, so the big news is I’M ON SUBMISSION with HASHTAG, CELEBRITY CRUSH. Woohoo!!! Yeehaw!! Yeah, baby!!
What does that actually mean?
It means my agent sent the manuscript to a bunch of editors at larger publishing houses to see if they’re interested. Most of them said yes. They now have the manuscript in their hands. One of them has already reached out to Cathie to say they loved it and are moving forward with it, meaning they are handing it off to some others at the company. If those others agree, it will go to the Aquisitions Table.
Then we wait to see if we get an offer. Exciting times for sure!
In other news, I did a thing that I would never let my kids do… I rented a beach house three states away with some people I met on the internet.
The good news is, they were only a little nuts. And it was my brand of nuts.
It was a Writer Retreat with THE SPRINTERS. NYT bestselling author Emily Colin, author and PitchWars mentor (I call her my mentor, too) Lisa Amowitz, and fellow WriteSquad member who I got to meet last summer up in Tennessee Dr. Marie LeStrange.
Confession: we didn’t get a lot of writing done.
However… there was brainstorming, socializing, and a TikTok training session by the only person under 40 in the crowd (and she’s WAY under 40). God bless her, she had her work cut out for her. We dubbed it #yeoldeTikTok. Moral of the story: go find me on TikTok at @authorchristypswift (if you dare… muahhahaha). Just kidding, it’s not terribly impressive; I’m still learning.
IN THE MEANTIME…
Here are some book, TV show, and movie recommendations in case, like me, you’re also into Love and Spaceships:
Books: Illuminae, by Amie Kaufman and Jay Kristoff. This YA sci-fi is also a teen love story, and it’s told completely through documentation via a post-event investigation of a planetary invasion. Don’t go audio for this—the artwork and visual component are crucial (although I have heard that if you listen to the audio while reading the book, it’s doubly awesome.)
TV: You know it’s gotta be Obi Wan Kenobi. You get to meet 10-year-old Princess Leia and she is off-the-charts adorable! That little actress has a great career ahead of her. Plus, Ewen McGregor is a cinnamon roll (as usual) and Hayden Christensen came back to play Vader!
Movie: This a throwback, but I recently re-watched it and it was as fun as ever! In fact, my TV game show scene in HASHTAG, CELEBRITY CRUSH was inspired by the “You’re So Vain” scene in this movie. And it’s shocking how many times the love fern reference shows up in my daily life.
Okay, that’s about all I’ve got for now. Thanks for being a part of my journey and getting in on the ground floor. I appreciate all the faith everyone has put in me. Hopefully soon I’ll have some news on a real, actual book deal.
