We're in production! Obscure Celebrity Crushes. Free sweet reads.
Do you know who Mike Rowe is? How about Michael Biehn? Let's talk obscure celebrity crushes.
Obscure Celebrity Crushes
I’ve been having some fun with the whole celebrity crush thing on my social media, but I don’t want to fill my feed up with just the guys I like, so I asked for suggestions. Two people mentioned Mike Rowe. I was like huh? Who the heck is that? So I looked him up.
Mike Rowe is an American television host and narrator best known for his work on the Discovery Channel series "Dirty Jobs,” but he’s also the host of “Shark Week” and “the Deadliest Catch." How did I not know this? I love sharks and the ocean in general! He is also recognized for his advocacy of skilled trades and has a foundation that promotes vocational training and education. He’s 62, so score one point for the silver foxes.
Come to think of it, one of my teen celebrity crushes is a silver fox now. Michael Biehn recently played Lang in the 2nd Season of the Mandolorian, but I always remember him as the wiry, haunted Kyle Reese in “The Terminator.” When he delivered the line, “I came across time for you, Sarah. I love you, and I always will,” my 17-year-old brain was IMPRINTED. Then of course, he starred alongside Sigourney Weaver in “Aliens.” There’s an iconic line in that movie that gets a shout-out in Celebrity Crush. In fact, all three of these franchises get a reference in the book. They are sci-fi gold.
So who is your Obscure Celebrity Crush? Inquiring minds want to know.
Publishing news…
We’re officially in production, folks! My editor and I completed first and second round edits on Celebrity Crush, and now it goes onto the long, slow conveyor belt that is traditional publishing. I also wrote my acknowledgments and dedication. Meanwhile, I’m working on revising Celebrity Crush: Incognito, the second book in that universe. Here’s some actual footage of that:
Yes, it’s true. With maybe a little splash of Johnny Depp. I mean, let’s make it fun, right?
What to read…
I haven’t been reading a ton of books lately, but I’ve been looking for comps for Celebrity Crush, namely other non-explicit celebrity crush romcoms, and I found this one:
I loved, loved, loved this book! It’s single POV with a protagonist who has the most delicious dry sense of humor. I pictured the love interest being played by Matthew McConaughey but maybe that was just the way the audiobook narrator did his voice. Anyway… 5 stars! Hilarious and heartfelt. Just the right amount of zip, too, like a good guacamole.
As for free reads for you this month, I’ve teamed up with two other authors for newsletter promos. These are both sweet and clean and swoony! Click on the images to get access to their stories.
I’ve also found a couple of FB Book Groups I’ll be active on. If you’re looking to connect with more readers and authors for book recs and goodies, you may want to check them out, too. These are sweet/clean, but I’ll keep my eye out for some steamier ones for you spicy girls, too. ;)
Hold the Spice, this Book Group is Nice
On the personal side…
I’ve had some fun lately including an awesome book basket party where I took home Matched, a YA dystopian book by Ally Condie and some goodies, including a retro-looking calculator and Sourpatch Oreos (which I immediately handed to the kids). They didn’t like them, either. Here are the book party ladies enjoying ourselves!
I also had the picture-perfect Memorial Day weekend with my family and my BFF and her daughter who came for a visit. There was kayaking, shopping, and floating for hours in the ocean. I can’t think of a better way to kick off the summer.
Have a great summer! Next month’s newsletter will have: newborn grandbaby pics and Tom Hiddleston as macaroons. In the meantime, please consider connecting with me on my social media.
Bye for now!
I guess I don't watch enough reality TV LOL.
How did you not know who Mike Rowe was?!?!?!??
I imagine some of your lady friends being like, "Girrrrllll, he puts the DIRTY in Dirty Jobs!" LOL
